Cooler weather brings cooler water temperatures that can affect your fishing experience.

Fish are cold-blooded and cannot regulate their body temperature, so they are forced to adjust their metabolism to the seasons. Lower water temperatures cause the metabolism of the fish to slow, which in turn slows their movement and decreases their need for food. For you, this means your fishing routine may need to change as well. Slow-moving bait and lures will bring you greater success.

Along with the proper gear, the time of day is an important factor. Hitting the water when the sun is out and the day is warming will provide you with better opportunities to reel in your catch.

Also consider the water’s depth. During cold months, fish will seek out deeper waters where the temperature is more stable. Since they tend to gather in larger groups as they semi-hibernate, this time of year may make it easier to find a sweet spot.

Temperature change on a body of water is mostly affected  by rainfall, but, of course, the amount of sunlight the water receives will also play a role. Remember to consult the weather forecast to know what kind of fishing day it will be. Then pack accordingly for your trip along the Alabama Bass Trail
