The Mobile-Tensaw River Delta – one of Alabama’s “10 Natural Wonders” – has more than 20,000 acres of open waters for you to explore and fish. It’s the second largest delta in the United States and the perfect spot for you to cast your lure and reel in that lunker. The river delta also covers more than 200,000 acres of swamps and marshlands and was named a National Landmark in 1974.

The Mobile-Tensaw River Delta is excellent for anglers of all skill levels. Expect to find largemouth bass, spotted bass, bream, crappie, redfish or flounder on the end of your hook. The saltwater influence makes the river delta a great spot for speckled trout, redfish, and flounder. And the freshwater creek banks and deep channels of the lower delta allow anglers to explore and find their honey hole.

Finding the fish can be challenging on an unfamiliar body of water. Fishing guides are happy to share their knowledge and can have quite an impact on the types and amount of fish you catch.

A number of public boat ramps are available, making it convenient to access the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta. Nearby bait and tackle shops provide supplies, snacks and more to make your day fun and successful.

After a full day of fishing, you’ll want a place to rest your head at night. The lodging options include motels, inns, suites, lodges, bed and breakfasts, and cabins.

Those who prefer a more outdoorsy setting will find plenty of RV parks and tent sites.

Land-based exploration is waiting for you at Meaher State Park, so grab your camera and binoculars before setting out on the boardwalks.

You will work up an appetite while on the delta. Whatever your taste buds are craving, you’ll be able to find it in Mobile. Since you’ll be out and about, take some time to shop, too. From antique shops to galleries and boutiques, you’ll find treasures galore.

Plan some flexibility in your schedule to check out the Mobile area attractions. Whether you’re interested in arts, the outdoors, flowers, museums or science, it will be easy to find activities to match your interests and make your trip special.

The Mobile-Tensaw River Delta is a great spot for anglers every season of the year. But also spend some time out of the water to experience even more of what this part of southern Alabama has to offer.
