The secret may be out.

Neely Henry has long been considered by in-the-know anglers to be Alabama’s best kept secret. They know largemouth and spotted bass are plentiful and stripers can be found here, too, particularly in the headwaters in spring.

Neely Henry Reservoir is located in northeast Alabama on the Coosa River, near the towns of Gadsden and Ohatchee. The reservoir, which fans out toward Weiss Dam, covers more than 11,000 acres and extends 77.6 miles and is one of the 13 lakes of the Alabama Bass Trail.

The lake is a convenient drive from Interstate 59 and there’s plenty of water access, whether you choose to fish from the bank at one of the public access points or hit the water by boat. The good spots are plentiful around the lake’s many piers and boat docks, and amid the natural crooks and crannies.

There are plenty of services nearby, from tackle shops to experienced guides, making it an ideal place for leisure fishermen to hit the water. Area attractions add off-the-water options for fun. From the streets of historic downtown Gadsden to Noccalula Falls park and large campground, you’ll find plenty for the land lubbers to enjoy.

Add Neely Henry Lake to your next Alabama Bass Trail outing. You’ll be glad you did.
