If you have ever fished on the Alabama Bass Trail, then you know there are some monster fish swimming in the lake waters. Several record-size fish have been caught over the years and there are more waiting. Below are just a few of the monster fish that still hold the record today:

  • A smallmouth bass weighing in at 10 lbs., 8 oz. was caught on Wheeler Lake in 1950. Surrounded by the Joe Wheeler State Park, this lake offers large manmade reservoirs throughout. This record-size bass was caught near the Wheeler Dam.
  • A 73-pound carp was caught in 2012 in the Guntersville Reservoir. Include this area on future outings and maybe you will catch the next record-winning fish.
  • Have you been catfishing? One lucky man from Selma caught an 80-pound flathead catfish on the Alabama River. Now that’s a big fish!
  • A monster walleye weighing in at 10 lbs., 14 oz. was caught in 1980 in the Weiss Reservoir. Known as the Crappie Fishing Capital of the World, this lake has many other species of fish ready for you to catch.

Now it’s time for you to get out and fish the Alabama Bass Trail. Will you bring home the next award-winning fish?
