In the mid1980s, the United States population of the bald eagle was on the verge of extinction. This beautiful creature, the symbol of our country, had dwindled in numbers due to poaching and overdevelopment of the bird’s natural habitats. An ever-growing need to help save the species prompted Alabama to create Eagle Awareness at Lake Guntersville State Park.

Observe and admire the eagles during the January and February weekend viewings and guided hiking trips throughout the state park. It’s an extraordinary feeling to look up in the sky and see a large bald eagle soar over your head! What used to be a rare sight is now more common in all 50 states of the United States thanks to programs like this – and this month we celebrate 35 years of progress with them

Enjoy time in the great outdoors as you explore the land and learn about the bald eagles from notable speakers when you attend an Eagle Awareness Weekend in Lake Guntersville State Park. Viewings and VIP access to presentations are every weekend through February 16, 2020. Find out more and book your trip to Lake Guntersville via the Alabama State Parks website
