Have you ever wondered how fishing tales begin? One moment you’re catching a normal 18-inch largemouth bass and the next thing you know you’re telling a friend about a miniature whale that almost took you and your boat down to the bottom of the Alabama River! Fishing tales are part of the fishing world and need to be told time after time!

Some true tales, however, seem too good to be true. We are here to share a couple fairytale endings. The first one dates back to 1990 on the Guntersville Reservoir where a 57-pound buffalo fish was caught. And a 73-pound grass carp was caught there in 2012. Try telling those stories to one of your friends and see if they believe you!

Jump back to 1986 to a boat ride through the Alabama River where an 80-pound flathead catfish was caught. Lake Martin was the home of a 4-pound, 9-ounce white crappie that was caught in 2000. Both still hold the record in their category of freshwater fish caught in Alabama.

The Bass Trail in Alabama is home to a variety of freshwater fish. Whether you are searching for crappie and catfish in Lake Jordan or largemouth bass in the depths of Lay Lake, there are always fishing fairytales waiting to be caught.
