It’s no surprise you will see several species of bass swimming in the waters along the Alabama Bass Trail. But the trail is home to many more forms of wildlife, too. Below are a few spots to admire our native creatures while you’re exploring the ABT.

Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge
Visit Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge at Lake Eufaula to catch a glimpse of an American alligator floating in the wetlands or a white-tailed deer frolicking through the fields.

Buck’s Pocket State Park
Lake Guntersville is home to Buck’s Pocket and Morgan’s Cove. This is part of the North Alabama Birding Trail! You may even spot a bald eagle flying to or from its nest above the creek.

Wind Creek State Park
Another popular spot for birdwatching is Wind Creek State Park along Lake Martin. This locale is part of Alabama’s Piedmont Plateau Birding Trail. Bald eagles and osprey can be seen here throughout the year.

Little River National Canyon Preserve
Located in Weiss Lake, this preserve provides a great opportunity to experience many diverse animal species. Mammals, reptiles, insects, fish and birds all occupy the protected acreage. Keep an eye out for a black bear or a river otter.

As you can see, the Alabama Bass Trail is a wildlife enthusiast’s paradise. Head out on the trail, grab your binoculars and see what creatures you can spot hanging out within these beautiful settings.
