The new year is here, so it’s time to get packing and hit the road to discover new adventures on the Alabama Bass Trail. With 13 lakes to fish and explore, this trail stretches from northern Alabama all the way south to the Gulf of Mexico. Fish for bass, crappie, catfish and more in the depths of these massive lakes.
But let’s focus for a moment on the southern tip of the state and look at the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta. This trail of lakes is not limited to bass – you can fish hundreds of species in the delta, including some saltwater fish. Known for its biodiversity, this delta is a hot spot for anglers who want the challenge of hauling in both freshwater and saltwater species.
The delta was named a National Landmark in 1974 and is one of Alabama’s “10 Natural Wonders.” Its waters stretch all the way down to the Gulf of Mexico and provides options to fish shallow creek beds as well as deep waters.
For fun off the water, experience history aboard the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park as you walk through a real war battleship. Follow it with a trip to the GulfQuest/National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico. Travel just a few minutes south to stroll the beautiful Bellingrath Gardens and Home in Theodore or stay in Mobile to browse famous art collections at the Alabama Contemporary Art Center.
Whether you want to spend your time on the water or land, the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta offers plenty of options to keep you happily occupied. Get out along the Alabama Bass Trail and make wonderful memories!
