Different lures attract different fish. You will need the right lure to haul in the big one. From spinnerbaits to plastic worms, how do you know which to choose for bass fishing?

The depth of the fish and the area you are fishing play a major role in your lure options.

If you are fishing a tournament, the number of bass matters at the end of the day. This means you want to attract as many bass as possible and do it quickly. A crankbait is a great option for such a setting. This lure allows you to fish in deep or shallow waters and over large areas in a short amount of time. The lure mimics food that the bass are attracted to.

To attract large bass, you will want to use a spinnerbait. These can be used on the surface or under the water. When used underwater, this lure sends out vibrations that attract larger bass and can be especially helpful in low visibility. If reeled in correctly, the lure moves like a bug under the water.

The plastic worm is also a winner in our book. These are easy to use and attract bass because, well, they look just like a worm. Offered in a variety of sizes, the plastic worm can be used in all depths of water and are a classic for many fisherman and women.

Now that you have a head start on the type of lures to use, it’s time to get out and fish the Alabama Bass Trail!  Also check out our online gallery to see what others have caught while fishing the trail.
