At 631 miles, the Alabama Scenic River Trail is the longest water trail in the country. It begins at the Georgia state line and winds through beautiful lakes, rivers and creeks. The scenery ranges from steep stone cliffs to the tranquil beauty of secluded bayous in the Delta region. From the trail, you’ll pass through magnificent wildlife preserves and beautiful rural areas as well as some of Alabama’s best-known cities, ending at historic Fort Morgan, where the rivers meet the Gulf of Mexico.

For the canoeist and kayaker, there are easy stretches with numerous well-maintained campsites. Throughout the state, a combination of designed portages and lock-through dams make transport easy. Most of these paddling adventures can also be taken by motorboat.

For an overview, the Alabama Scenic River Trail Association publishes a website with trip planning and resource contact information and describing various portions of the trail in detail. You’ll find information on campgrounds, marinas, and key facilities including fuel stops for powerboats and put-in and take-out locations. They also highlight points of interest along the way.
