The lake takes center stage in this northeast Alabama community, and in addition to its renowned crappie population, it’s home to what the locals call “healthy sized” largemouth, spotted and striped bass. Manmade structures provide pockets of habitat amid the 30,200 acres of the lake, which ranges from shallow flats to deep channels.

There’s even a drive-in theatre showing movies outdoors every weekend evening! Some choose to get out and enjoy it all, from fishing and hunting to hiking and biking. Others prefer to relax and take in the scenery on a drive along the Appalachian Highlands Scenic Byway or the Lookout Mountain Parkway. Fish camps, hunting lodges and campgrounds offer a variety of lodging options, and public-access sites at the lake are plentiful.
