If you’re planning to get outside during these winter months, you might benefit from some helpful tips and tricks regarding bass fishing in colder weather. We’re happy to be of service!
Remember, bass tend to react sluggishly in colder water and are not going to chase their meal. The slower the reel, the better.
When fishing the lakes in Alabama, always keep in mind there are many experts who will guide you through a successful bass fishing trip. The top three lures we will focus on today are the shaky head, the grub, and the jerkbait.
The common shaky head hook is light and easy to work with. Sink a plastic worm on the tip and let it go to work. Reel the hook in slowly and let the worm naturally move with the flow of the water. Bass will be drawn to the slow movements and see it as an easy meal. By the way, some of the best bass have been caught off the shores of Lake Eufaula.
The grub hook is perfect to cast into deep waters where the bass will be found during colder temperatures. Webster’s dictionary defines a grub hook as “an implement resembling a plow for uprooting stumps.” Of course, we aren’t worrying about stumps when we talk about this hook. Maybe it’s best to say these are great to uproot bass.
When scouting for the perfect fishing spot, the jerkbait is best. Said by some to be the “king of cold-weather baits,” the jerkbait comes in all different colors and can feature two or three dangling hooks. To use this lure in the winter months, remember to let it sink, then jerk it slowly as you reel it in.
