Avoid the summertime slump!
Although the heat may be turned up high in the summer, that doesn’t mean you can’t go out and catch some great bass. Follow along for some tips to help you reel in that big bass you’ve been waiting for.
As the water temperatures rise, the fish start looking for cooler places to hang out. That means you may need to change your tactics for fishing as well. Finding cooler water temperatures is the best way to find the fish. During the day, stick around deeper water and freshwater runoffs as they will have cooler temperatures. Shade also provides cooler temperatures, so finding the shaded water will connect you to the fish. You may find shade by boat docks, piers, matted vegetation, shaded banks or ledges, structures and large trees.
The cooler times of day also beckon anglers to take to the waters. Without the sun high in the sky, the waters will cool down. Fish typically move to shallow water at night and before sunrise. The fish feel more comfortable in the darkness and the shallow waters will cool more at night, giving you the perfect opportunity to catch some bass in the early morning. Although your alarm clock may be going off earlier than normal, it just might be worth it to catch that lunker.
One last trick to have more success is to find where the bass are feeding. If you find the food, you find the fish.
Enjoy your fishing along the Alabama Bass Trail this summer and remember to always come prepared for the weather!
