Spring makes its grand entrance on March 20. It’s time to pull the boats out of storage and get them ready for that first launch at your favorite fishing location! After being in storage all year, there are a few important tasks that need to be checked off your list before you take it out on the water.
After you take your boat in to get serviced, you will most likely want to shine it up and have it looking new. Remember to only use products designed for marine vehicles. Non-marine soaps and cleaners can damage the outside of your boat.
Check your registration and make sure it is up to date. Just like a car, your boat will need to be registered at your local DMV.
It’s extemely important to do a full safety check on your boat. Be sure you have all safety equipment on board. All flares and fire extinguishers should be safely tucked away. You should have life jackets for every person riding on the boat.
Make sure all the running lights and horns work. Trailer brake lights and running lights should be a priority to fix. Yes, it can save you from a ticket while driving your boat to and from the launch, but the more important point is that it makes it safer for you and the other drivers on the road.
Once you have made the proper adjustments to your boat, it’s time to hit the road and travel to your favorite fishing spot.
