When visiting the Alabama River, we highly recommend including a trip to Roland Cooper State Park. Camping, birdwatching opportunities and great fishing are all part of the experience there.
Dannelly Reservoir, also known as Millers Ferry, is home to a variety of game fish. The lake hosts multiple tournaments throughout the year, but any angler would have a high chance of reeling in a big one here.
The 47 campsites available at Roland Cooper include a picnic table, grill, water, 30-amp electric and water/sewer hookups. For those who prefer to pitch a tent, choose from 13 sites. Five furnished two-bedroom cabins are an option when a glamping experience is desired. To reserve a cabin, book online where you can see their current rates and rules. All campers have access to bathrooms and showers.
The park is a stop on Alabama’s Black Belt Birding Trail, making it a birder’s paradise. Grab your binoculars and see what songbirds you can spot hidden in the trees. Waterfowl and raptors are also commonly seen, with bald eagles and ospreys making appearances throughout the year.
A visit to Roland Cooper State Park is an affordable option: $2 admission for adults, $1 for children under 12, and free for those under 6. Boat launch access is included with the fee.
Nature awaits at Roland Cooper State Park!
