Follow the Alabama Bass Trail and you will be led to many versions of finger-lickin’ good BBQ. From the north to the south, you are sure to come across BBQ that will have your senses dancin’. Built on generations of tradition, these great smokers are the ideal place to stop after a morning of fishing on the local waters.
Near Wheeler Lake, you will find Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q in Decatur. Founded in 1925 under a sycamore tree, Bob’s has been a top spot for sauces. Eat in, then be sure to take some sauces and rubs home with you to try your hand at some home-cooked BBQ.
Moving south to Lake Guntersville, Wilson’s BBQ is close by in Albertville. A popular place for a quick drive-thru meal that spent hours on the smoker. With flavor that always delivers, you won’t want to miss the BBQ Chicken Baked Potato.
A Lewis Smith Lake fan favorite is Johnny’s Bar-B-Q in Cullman. Johnny’s has 36 awards to its name; when you sink into the pulled pork plate, you’ll understand why.
When near Logan Martin Lake and Lay Lake, make your way to Bob Sykes Bar-B-Q in Bessemer. Since 1957 this family-owned eatery has kept the fire burning to bring wonderful food from the pit to your plate.
Continuing the trip south, near Lake Jordan is Champs Barbeque in Wetumpka. Here you will want to try the famous Champ Stew, made of a mix of pulled pork, chicken and vegetables.
Finishing the BBQ trail near Lake Eufaula, the BBQ Shack in Dothan has handmade pulled pork from a recipe passed down through the generations. After this meal, you’ll be licking your plate and wanting more.
