About the Area

Whether it’s fishing or boating on Lake Weiss, canoeing or kayaking on Terrapin Creek or swimming and hiking in Little River Canyon National Preserve, outdoor fun is the major attraction in the rural region of the state, centered between Birmingham, Alabama, Atlanta, Georgia and Chattanooga, Tennessee. There’s even a drive-in theatre showing movies outdoors every weekend evening! Some choose to get out and enjoy it all, from fishing and hunting to hiking and biking. Others prefer to relax and take in the scenery on a drive along the Appalachian Highlands Scenic Byway or the Lookout Mountain Parkway. Fish camps, hunting lodges and campgrounds offer a variety of lodging options, and public-access sites at the lake are plentiful.
