Every great fisherman has their favorite techniques and practices to catch the big ones. This is what makes them great. But did you know a few simple knots can lead to great success when it comes to bass fishing? Below are a few to try out during your next fishing trip.

1.) Snell Knot The snell knot is regularly used for live bait and ties your line directly on your hook. Depending on the type of line you have, tests have shown it to hold up to 30 pounds. To tie this knot, pass the line through the hook eye and wrap it around seven times before passing it back through the hook eye. This knot is a quick way to effectively tie the hook to the line, making it hard to slip or become loose.

2.) Palomar Knot The palomar (pronounced PAHL-oh-mahr) knot ties your line through the hook eye and can hold up to 15 pounds depending on the type of line you have. This knot can be made by creating a loop in your line. Pass the loop through the hook eye and pull the starting end of your line through the loop. Pass the hook through the loop and over the eyelet. To finish, pull the end of your line and secure the knot.

3.) Uni Knot The uni knot is useful, easy to tie, and very strong. To create this knot, pass the line through the hook eye, then pull the end of the line through about 6 inches and create a loop. Wrap the end around your line six to seven times and then pull through the loop. Tighten and trim the excess end off your line.

Now that you have a couple pro-worthy knots down, you are ready to fish the Alabama Bass Trail!
